THE UK HITS THE 50 EVENTS MARK FOR IDAHO 2013 !
As we get into the final countdown to IDAHOT 2013, the United Kingdom has emerged as a major hub for commemorations around the Day. Many of the best and brightest of the UK LGBTQI scene, and allies – from Radical Bookshops and the Pansy Project, to bus drivers in Derby and Fire Fighters in Shropshire, to the Lesbian & Gay Foundation, Sheffield Museums and key members of Trans Media Watch, and many many more – will be speaking out in style for May 17, 2013.
So if you are in the UK for the International Day Against Homophobia & Transphobia, it is practically guaranteed that there will be a fantastic event near where you are.
Actions which connect with the Global Rainbow Flashmob have been announced in London (3 different events), Manchester, Sheffield, Brighton & Hove, and Swansea.
Meanwhile, the UK’s community-friendly media partners have also been teaming up to join the Day’s commemorations. Gay Star News and Time Out have already confirmed full coverage of the Day’s events, and the folks at Gay Star News are even planning their very own musical rainbow flashmob for the day!
All of this stands in contrast to just a few weeks ago when the IDAHO Committee team knew of only a handful of events. As IDAHO stalwart and coordinator for UK actions, Derek Lennard, commented “As Louis-Georges Tins will tell you, I always say early on that there will be no events and then there are a ton of them!”
For a full & up to date list of events (listed by region) see the dedicated IDAHO UK site. If you can’t see your event listed or for partnership ideas, please email Derek Lennard at dmlennard@idahouk.org.
