Info: 17 May is commemorated every year all over the world as the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Transphobia and Interphobia. In northern Cyprus, pride marches have been organised on this date since 2014 and the human rights of lesbian, bisexual, trans, intersex and pluses (LGBTI+) are reminded to the whole society.
In the Hate Speech – How are we doing? panel, we will discuss the process that took place with the criminalisation of hate speech against LGBTI+’s in northern Cyprus since 2020. In the panel moderated by Ziba Sertbay, Erman Dolmacı will evaluate hate speech against LGBTI+’s in northern Cyprus, while Hakan Çoban will talk about the regulations on LGBTI+’s in Europe and his personal experiences. Şenel Hüsnü Raman will share the effects of hate speech against LGBTI+’s both in the wider society and on LGBTI+’s specifically. After all the speeches, the panel will proceed in the form of a conversation with questions from the participants, and anyone interested in the subject can participate.
The event will be in Turkish and simultaneous translation into English will be provided.
