British High Commission celebrates IDAHOBIT 2019
The British High Commission in TT has joined in the celebration of International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia & Transphobia (Idahobit). Today, members and allies of the LGBT+ community in TT came together for a celebration of love, colour and equality at the British High Commission in Port of Spain.
High Commissioner Tim Stew MBE said he was pleased to raise the Rainbow Flag in the presence of staff, representatives of the German Embassy, the Australian High Commission, representatives from Hyatt Regency Trinidad and Global Shapers Port of Spain.
The great letters in front the buiulding were painted by British High Commission staff with support from the Silver Lining Foundation.
Stew MBE said, “Human rights are universal & should apply equally to all. Today, on Idahobit, let us share the same dignity, respect & rights to the LGBT+ community as we do with others.”
This year’s theme for Idahobit, Justice & Protection For All, emphasises a core objective of the UK’s human rights work – which seeks to increase respect for equality, tolerance & non-discrimination for all members of society.
