May 17 is global call of respect and celebration of LGBTIQA+ people, known as IDAHOBIT.
IDAHOBIT stands for International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex Discrimination and Transphobia. It’s a chance to learn more about how we can support LGBTIQA+ people and celebrate the important contribution that they make to our communities. IDAHOBIT is for everyone LGBTIQA+ people and allies alike. It’s about learning, belonging and community.
Merri Food Hub, Merri-bek City Council and Fawkner Neighbourhood House are marking the day with Transgender Victoria!
Join us for brunch and conversation on Friday, 15 May 2026 from 11am to 1pm at Merri Food Hub, Senior Citizens’ Centre, Jukes Road, Fawkner. Your presence matters.
Queer Picnic and Crafternoon – IDAHOBIT (Toowoomba)
Queer Picnic and Crafternoon for IDAHOBIT 2026 at Queens Park Toowoomba, QLD. Sunday 17 May 2026, 12:30pm–3pm. BYO picnic blanket and craft; optional shared food welcome. Colouring books and craft packs provided. For 16+ or accompanied by an affirming parent/guardian. In case of rain, event moves indoors to Level 1, 158 Margaret Street, Toowoomba. All gender identities and pronouns celebrated. Free. Hosted by New Leaf Social Work.
IDAHOBIT Tiny Art Show Launch – Inglewood Library
Launch of the IDAHOBIT Tiny Art Show at Inglewood Library Agency, Inglewood VIC. Wednesday 13 May 2026, 2pm–3pm. The exhibition features small artworks on canvas created by community members celebrating the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex Discrimination and Transphobia. The exhibition runs Wednesday 13 May–Wednesday 27 May 2026. No bookings required.
Victoria University IDAHOBIT Celebrations – Footscray Park
Victoria University IDAHOBIT campus celebration at the Building P Courtyard, Footscray Park Campus. Wednesday 13 May 2026, 11:30am–1:30pm. Activities include free IDAHOBIT-themed cupcakes, a tie-dye station, face painting by VUSU, a tarot reader and airbrush temporary tattoos. Open to all VU staff and students.

Victoria University IDAHOBIT campus celebration at the walkway between Buildings N and T (The River), Footscray Nicholson Campus. Thursday 14 May 2026, 11:30am–1:30pm. Activities include free IDAHOBIT-themed cupcakes, a tie-dye station, face painting by VUSU, a tarot reader and airbrush temporary tattoos.

Victoria University IDAHOBIT Expert Panel – At the Heart of Democracy
Victoria University IDAHOBIT expert panel discussion exploring the theme 'At the Heart of Democracy'. Wednesday 13 May 2026, 11:30am–12:15pm, Room P303, Building P, Footscray Park Campus. Panellists include Professor Fiona McLachlan (inclusive sport and gender equity), Dr Joe Doley (body image and wellbeing in LGBTQIA+ communities), and Akii Ngo (DEIB practitioner and advocate). LSA Queer Mixer – IDAHOBIT (UBQ Fitzroy)

Mildura Rural City Council in partnership with community agencies and services are proud to reaffirm its commitment to support the LGBTQIA+ community with a special event at Powerhouse Place to mark International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).
