JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France is proud to announce the launch of its Annual Report 2025: An Updated State of LGBTQI+ Rights in Bangladesh on May 17, 2025, at the French National Bar Association Premises, 180 Boulevard Haussmann, 75008 Paris, France.
Now in its third edition, this report continues our mission to document, analyze, and advocate for the rights of LGBTQI+ individuals in Bangladesh. Building on our previous reports from 2023 and 2024, this latest edition highlights both progress and persistent challenges faced by the community in a society where full equality remains an elusive goal.
Key Insights from the Report:
The impact of political shifts in 2024 on human rights policies
Ongoing discrimination, violence, and stigma fueled by fundamentalist groups, political parties, and student movements
The daily struggles of LGBTQI+ individuals, from legal and social exclusion to targeted violence
Inspiring stories of activists and organizations fighting for justice and equality
Based on extensive research, media reports, and firsthand accounts, this report captures the state of LGBTQI+ rights from January to December 2024. However, many cases of abuse remain unreported due to fear and societal stigma, limiting the full scope of these violations.
Despite these challenges, this report stands as a critical advocacy tool, reinforcing the urgent need for systemic change and continued activism.
Join us as we unveil this crucial publication and renew our commitment to justice and equality for all.

The Power of Communities
Share
The theme for the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT) 2025 is “The power of communities.”
Developed through consultations with LGBTQIA+ organisations worldwide, the IDAHOBIT 2025 theme “The power of communities” was announced during the ILGA World Conference 2024 in Cape Town, South Africa.
IDAHOBIT, observed annually on 17 May, commemorates the 1990 decision by the World Health Organization to remove homosexuality from its International Classification of Diseases. Since then, the day has served as a focal point for raising awareness of the violence and discrimination still faced by LGBTQIA+ people across the globe.
“The power of communities” reflects the diversity and richness within LGBTQIA+ communities, from the grassroots to the global, celebrating our varied and intersecting backgrounds, identities, and experiences. The theme for 2025 highlights the strength and resilience that emerges from our collective solidarity, recognising the contributions of human rights defenders, LGBTQIA+ civil society groups, allies, and millions of people in our communities who support human rights and collective liberation.
IDAHOBIT is not a centralised campaign; rather, it is a shared moment for communities and allies driving change around the world to take action in ways that resonate with their specific contexts and reflect their realities and priorities. Every initiative—big or small—counts and can make an impact, amplifying the movement’s reach and contributing to a world free from discrimination and violence.
