Activists from Barranquilla celebrated IDAHO 2012 with the theme “Towards a Barranquilla without Prejudice”. After 25 murders, nine cases of abusive treatment by police and 15 violent acts committed by members of the public in Barranquilla in the past five years, activists and organizations demanded “No more homo, lesbo, bi and transphobia”.
On May 17, they delivered a “vaccination” against homophobia aimed at raising awareness among municipality workers, citizens, members of the government and metropolitan police about respect and the acknowledgement of the rights of LGBT people. To mark the occasion, a commitment document was signed by government representatives affirming the rights of the city’s LGBT people.
