Uruguay IDAHO Report 2013

A march against transphobia, homophobia & lesbophobia, organised by the Unión Trans del Uruguay (Trans Union of Uruguay) put the fight against transphobia centre stage, in Uruguay’s May 17 mobilisations this year. The Ovejas Negras (Black Sheep) collective organised a participatory video project – highlighting teachers’ and students’ experiences of homo/lesbo/transphobia in schools. Activists also took to the streets to celebrate the country’s recent legalisation of same sex marriage.

Video reflecting on homophobia in education released

The Ovejas Negras (Black Sheep) collective presented an audiovisual collection of testimonies of students and teachers about their experiences of homo/lesbo/transphobia, within the Uruguayan educational system.
