Info: On the occasion of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), the Young Queer Alliance organised a 2 days’ training on LGBTQ reporting by the media on 19 and 20 May 2022.
The training is under the “Strengthening the inclusion and social acceptance of LGBTQIA+ persons, through policy and mindset changes, in Mauritius and Rodrigues” Project funded by the European Union and which is being implemented by the Young Queer Alliance and the Collectif Arc-en-ciel and supported by The Other Foundation and the Media Trust.
Association VISA-G the leading trans-led organisation in Mauritius and RekonekT also participated in the training by sharing their works.
Avocats Sans Frontières France – ASF France made a presentation on the Right to Asylum of LGBTQ Mauritians in Europe followed by a dialogue on Diversity and Inclusion in Businesses by Out Leadership.
Dentons and the YQA also made a broad presentation on Section250 of the Mauritius criminal code which criminalises homosexuality to ensure that the different media are empowered in proper media reporting in this regard.
