Event: IDAHOTB 2021: The face of LGBTQI exclusion in the COVID-19 pandemic
Direction: APCOM has been working in close collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Since 2019 we have been partners in commemorating IDAHOT, the ADB first ever IDAHOT commemoration. For 2021 the theme will be on COVID-19.

Description
To commemorate the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia 2021 (IDAHOTB 2021), ADB, in collaboration with the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and Inter-American Development Bank, will host a series of webinars to reach global audiences. This year’s IDAHOTB comes against the backdrop of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, which had adverse effects on vulnerable groups such as sexual and gender minorities, a group that World Health Organization and others have found to be at increased risk during the pandemic.

The global theme of IDAHOTB this year is “Together: Resisting, Supporting, Healing” and the International Finance Institutions will focus on  the impact of COVID-19 on sexual and gender minorities and policy responses to support lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) people mitigate the worst effects of the pandemic.

Objectives
– Highlight the challenges faced by LGBTQI people during the COVID-19 pandemic and raise awareness of measures that could put in place to ensure the inclusion of LGBTQI people responses to the pandemic.
– Increase global awareness of the laws and policies that discriminate against sexual and gender minorities and the impact it has on their everyday lives.
– Highlight the need for more SOGI disaggregated data generation and to showcase successful examples of SOGI inclusive research.
– Communicate the important work MDBs are undertaking to support sexual and gender minorities, especially during the pandemic.
– Strengthen the partnerships among MDBs and leverage their unique knowledge generation capacities to close the SOGI inclusion data gap.
– Highlight the importance of the internal staffing LGBTQI inclusion and diversity initiatives within the MDBs.
