The Power of Communities: loud, bold, and unapologetically ours
On the occasion of IDAHOBIT, celebrated every year on 17 May, organisations worldwide are coming together for a joint statement, reaffirming that our presence is not negotiable.
This is a joint statement on the occasion of IDAHOBIT 2025.

On this International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT), we raise our collective voices louder than ever.
In a world increasingly threatened by the rise of authoritarianism, fascist ideologies, and extremist forces seeking to erase our existence, we reaffirm that we are here, and our presence is not negotiable.
This year, LGBTQIA+ people around the world are with feminist, sexual reproductive health rights, and broader social justice movements. We unite not only to denounce the rising backlash but also to celebrate our many victories — the acts of resistance, the policy wins, the communities we have built, the solidarities we have formed, the youth who bravely speak up, and the elders who guide us.
We refuse to let fear define us or our movements, even in this dreadful time where everything we built our foundation on — from empathy to multilateral human rights institutions — is under attack and dangerous anti-rights narratives diluting from the Global North endanger grassroots communities.
No matter where we come from, the colour of our skin, the socio-economic conditions we face, or the faith that drives us, everyone deserves to be respected, free to be who we are and to love whom we love.
But some politicians and religious leaders across the world still use the lives of LGBTQIA+ people—particularly trans and gender-diverse individuals–as tools of distraction and warfare for their obscurantist politics, and to steer attention away from their own failures.
No life, identity, and body should be a battleground for political gain.
We assert the non-negotiable values of humanity, dignity, and inclusion — where every person, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, sex characteristics, or HIV status has the right to participate fully in social, political, and economic life.
We envision a world where freedom from fear, want, and state violence is a birthright, not a privilege. A world where bodily autonomy — including access to gender-affirming care, abortion, and legal gender recognition — is respected, not debated. A world where everyone lives, loves, moves, and thrives without being targeted or silenced.
IDAHOBIT 2025 will be loud, bold, and a testimony to our existence.
From small rural villages to major city squares, from art to protest, from classrooms to parliaments — we will show up. We will be seen. We will be heard. We call on allies, governments, civil society, and all people of conscience to join us. Not just in words, but in action. Not just on May 17, but every day. The time to show up, to speak out, to act — is now.
Communities are where we find our people. Communities are how we unite to create change. Together, we are powerful. Together, we are unstoppable.

IDAHOBIT 2025 in Munich
Ab 15 Uhr sprechen Vertreter*innen verschiedener LGBTIQ*-Organisationen.
//
Queerophobia is on the rise worldwide. There have also been attacks on LGBTIQ* people and their organisations in Munich. We are fighting back against this: join the IDAHOBIT on Saturday, 17 May, 3 pm, Sendlinger-Tor-Platz.
IDAHOBIT is the International Day against Homo-, Bi-, Inter- and Transphobia. Extremism, populism and hate speech are fuelling queer hostility; queer rights are being dismantled internationally and even criminalised in some countries. In Munich, there were graffiti on LeTRa and Sub; queer people themselves were repeatedly the victims of attacks.
But we are many, we are united, we will not be divided. Whether gay, lesbian, bi, trans, inter*, queer or ally - together we stand up for acceptance and human rights.
We call on all Munich residents and organisations to join our rally and the demonstration march through the city centre.
Representatives of various LGBTIQ* organisations will speak from 3 pm. Our protest march will then start from Sendlinger Tor via Oberanger, Rosental, Viktualienmarkt, Tal, Isartor, Frauenstraße, Reichenbachstraße, Gärtnerplatz, Corneliusstraße, Müllerstraße and Frauenhoferstraße to Papa-Schmid-Straße. We will be led by the drummers' group Münchner Ruhestörung.
The IDAHOBIT is organised by Munich Pride and its supporting associations. This year, the Münchner Aids-Hilfe is taking the lead. Our thanks go to the Munich Rainbow Foundation for their support every year!
The Future of Global LGBTI+ Rights: Navigating Uncertainty and Building Alternatives
To mark this year’s International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia, Kaleidoscope Trust is proud to announce a free online panel on May 29th at 2:30 PM (UK time).
Join our free, virtual event where Kaleiodoscope Trust will bring together activists, changemakers, diplomats and civil society leaders, to engage in a focused dialogue about the threats facing LGBTI+ rights and communities worldwide in this new era. The discussion will also explore strategies to strengthen collaboration, leverage international networks, and identify new opportunities to support and protect LGBTI+ rights in this critical period.
The global landscape for LGBTI+ rights demands urgent attention as a resurgence of populism and a troubling backlash against equality unfolds in many parts of the world, particularly in countries with a colonial legacy. Hostility towards LGBTI+ advocacy and communities is reshaping public discourse, bringing opportunities for collaboration, and setting concerning precedents in human rights practices. The proliferation of homophobic narratives and regressive policies is risking hard-won progress and endangering the safety, dignity, and freedom of our communities.
Our communities are our backbone, and we are honoured to celebrate them today and every day.
Join us in solidarity, reflection, and action.

*Finlandia* (2021).
