Citizens’ March – May 17

Citizens' March - May 17

• Visibiliser nos identités;
• Rappeler notre droit d’exister et de vivre en sécurité;
• Soutenir les communautés LGBTQ+;
• Montrer que les allié.e.s sont là et iels sont nombreux.euses;
• ire non à la haine.

Ami·e·s, familles, collègues, voisins·es : votre présence est essentielle!
Collectivement, mobilisons-nous contre ces reculs. Soyons des milliers à marcher le 17 mai!

ENGLISH

Fondation Émergence, in collaboration with Fierté Montréal, invites you to a citizen march on May 17, as part of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.

We are calling for solidarity and mobilization to emphasize the importance of our rights and to denounce the rise of hate through a strong presence in public spaces.

Citizen March – May 17
Date: May 17 – 2:00 PM
Location: Place des Festivals (Place-des-Arts metro station)

Last year, on this international day, we raised the alarm: LGBTQ+ rights are rolling back. This reality is worsening, both here and around the world. That’s why we invite you to march alongside LGBTQ+ communities—to say no to regression and yes to inclusion and respect.

A call to allies
Allies have a crucial role to play in this context. The void left by inaction quickly fills with hate—join us in this march to show the power of our numbers. It’s time to take collective action in solidarity.

Join us on May 17 for a citizen march to:
• Make our identities visible;
• Affirm our right to exist and to live in safety;
• Support LGBTQ+ communities;
• Show that allies are here, and they are many;
• Say no to hate.

Friends, families, colleagues, neighbors—your presence is essential!
Let’s stand together against these rollbacks. Let’s be thousands marching on May 17!

Better definitions, for better human rights?

Better definitions, for better human rights?

These past years anti-gender movements towards LGBTI+ communities around the world have made great efforts to redefine key terms used in international human rights law to protect these minorities. After some successful bills were passed in Africa, this movement also had some victories in Europe and America, challenging there too the definition established in international human rights law.

This conference will gather experts on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression and sex characteristics from various fields (diplomacy, international organization, courts, academia), to discuss how definition can be crucial for the protection of sexual, gendered and sexed minorities around the world.

PROGRAM
Opening statements

  • Adrien BASCOULERGUE, Dean of the Faculty of Law Julie-Victoire Daubié at University Lumière Lyon 2
  • Jean-Marc BERTHON, French ambassador for LGBT rights (video record)
  • Round-Table chaired by Benjamin MORON-PUECH, Professor at University Lumière Lyon 2
  • Silvan Agius (Former SOGIESC legal expert of European commissioner Helena Dalli)
  • Raina Georgieva, legal expert at the Bulgarian Constitutional court
