“Feminism matters because as a lesbian I can’t afford to ignore multiple axis of discrimination. It matters because our society still ignores the right of every woman to decide for herself and to act accordingly.
When I was 5, one little girl told me that I wasn’t a real girl because I preferred to play with boys. When I was 20, one man told me that I wasn’t a real woman because I preferred to sleep with women. When I was 25, one woman told me that I wasn’t feminist because I was too feminine.
All my life people around me try to tell me who I am and where my place is. But I know better. And I want this world to be a better place.”
