Human Rights Day for all

On this December 10th, many celebrations take place to mark Human Rights Day, one of the most iconic United Nations’ celebrations.
But most of these celebrations will focus on one specific group, and that’s understandable. We all want, and need, to raise awareness of our own cause, and shed light on forgotten, overseen or censored Human Rights abuses, which we face and suffer from.
Yet, the arguably most important message that this Day should help us raise, is that all Human Rights are indivisible and universal. Human Rights cannot be sliced off in neatly autonomous packages. There is no freedom of expression if there is no freedom of religion; There is no respect for sexual and gender diversity if there is no deep commitment to Women’s rights; There is no freedom to love if borders are closed to reunite families.
While we celebrate our own struggles for the right to be and love who we are, let’s reach out to all Human Rights movements and join hands. Let’s support each other, for we are all part of a same aspiration for a world where we can all live in peace together, where the only limitation to one’s rights would be the rights of others, and where the minorities and the weak will be protected.
