AFRICA

IDAHOBIT Pride Talks – Health Care Inequities: Barriers to care facing LBQT communities

Location: Online.
Date: 17 May 2024, 16:00-17:00 (CEST)
Link: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/idahobit-pride-talks-health-care-inequities-tickets-885787994737
Info: Join The Stephen Lewis Foundation’s annual IDAHOBIT Pride Talk with three outstanding African LBQ (lesbian, bisexual, queer) leaders in conversation about the current realities in HIV and health services and how to better meet the needs of LBQT communities for better health outcomes.

LGBTIQ people are regularly failed by heteronormative health services and discriminated against by health providers. An increased focus on key populations* programming is increasing HIV services for some members of LGBTIQ communities, but other queer and trans people are left behind. As a result, LBQT communities have very limited access to health programming related to HIV, cervical cancer, contraception, prenatal care or intimate partner violence.

This IDAHOBIT, join us as we amplify the voices of our partners and allies who work with LBQT communities to bring this discrimination to light. Hear about the barriers existing from those working on the frontlines, what their organizations are doing to overcome them, and how you can demonstrate your solidarity!

Panelists for this exciting event are:

  • Fauziah Alaine — Community Paralegal Officer, BHSEP
  • Hildah Mungai — LBQ Outreach Worker, MPEG
  • Mary Audry Chard — Executive Director, RAWO

Moderated by Tamar Carter — HIV & Harm Reduction Program Manager, Maggie’s Toronto
