A Live Dialogue, titled “Hold On Together”, has been broadcast on Sunday, May 16, 2021 from 7PM – 8PM via Facebook Live on Thai Transgender Alliance Facebook Fanpage. The Foundation of Transgender Alliance for Human Rights (ThaiTGA) has joined hands with their alliance network to organize this activity in commemoration of the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia or IDAHOT.
As the 17th of May every year marks the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, the occasion is intended to urge policy makers, thought leaders, social activists, people in general as well as press and media to attend the issues about violence and discrimination among LGBTI communities around the world. This year, the occasion has been organized under the concept of “Together : Resisting Supporting Healing”
Resisting     : Strengthen mental power to combat bias against LGBTI persons and COVID-19 patients as well as to reduce stigmatization
Supporting     : Take care of each other, offer solutions and help as much as they can
Healing     : Heal, seek physical and mental support for trans persons and Thai people affected by the COVID-19 situations
Date: Sunday, May 16, 2021  via Facebook Live
Time: 7pm to 8pm
Info: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the IDAHOT 2021 has thus placed a focus on the collaboration between LGBTI groups and global communities to prevent, take care, and relieve any impacts of the pandemic, which people around the world are receiving. Gender-based discrimination is one of the key issues that LGBTI persons are continually facing. This issue also causes stigmatization upon them and obstructs their access to the healthcare system, which requires sensitivity. They also become even more vulnerable during this critical situation because they could face overlapping discrimination from becoming COVID-19 patient or even being a suspect of the COVID-19 infection. It is, therefore, very important for people to heal and support each other both mentally and physically since humans cannot survive all alone.
This live dialogue has provided an open space for general people to show their support for LGBTI persons and the people, who are facing problems due to COVID-19 situations, through messages or video clips. The event also introduced participants through the history of IDAHOT as well as took them through the activities that the foundation together with their alliance network have carried out since 2013 until now.
The main activity of this online event on Sunday, May 16, 2021, from 7pm to 8pm involved a debut of the short film titled “Naphat”, which is directed by Khun Golf or Tanwarin Sukkhapisit, and broadcast through Facebook Live on Thai Transgender Alliance Facebook Fanpage. This short film tells a story about LGBTI persons, who are continually facing gender-based discrimnation in terms of education, lifestyle and medical treatment. It was also a great honour for the event to have Khun Golf or Tanwarin Sukkhapisit, a well-known film director, and Dr. Nittaya Phanuphak, the executive director of Institute of HIV Research and Innovation (IHRI) and the founder of Community-led COVID-19 Support Workforce to share their thoughts regarding the current COVID-19 situation and its impacts upon LGBTI groups as well as to give support, hopes, and encourage people of all genders to fight with their problems and live their lives safely together during this crisis. This is because we believe that holding on together is strength.
This live dialogue, titled “Hold on together”, has featured the following guests;
