Hundreds of organisations take action on May 17th around the world
Many of them act under extremely difficult conditions and can’t rely on local solidarities. They need your support.
Local actions are carried out with minimal budgets. Only 100 €/pound/$ get a far way to organise a conference, publish a campaign pamphlet in a national newspaper, stage a flashmob or a media stunt, commission a study on homophobic violence, etc…
The IDAHO Committee has been supporting many local actions since the launch of the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia in 2005. These actions include support to

• Belarus activists  to organise a public march on May 17 to protest harsh police crackdown. This was the first ever public event to take place in the country
• Cambodian LGBT groups to organise arts festivals around IDAHO in several cities across the country. The support targeted specifically media work, which allowed for reaching most of the country’s 14 million people
• Burundi LGBT groups to do public education and awareness raising work in 3 rural regions in the country
• South African activists to organise a ‘Rainbow Flashmob’ in Johannesburg to denounce the violence targeting LGBT people, especially Lesbians
• Organisations in 13 Latin American countries to combat reparative ‘therapies’ and the forced medical treatment of  young LGBT people. This specific action resulted in the closure of more than 50 clinics in Ecuador, and the setting up of strong surveillance bodies in Peru and Bolivia.

All the supported organisations were long time partners of the IDAHO Committee and the use of funds is monitored to ensure transparency in the use of funds “
