Brace yourselves! May 17 will host a storm of artsy flashmobs in many parts of the globe!
Gender festivals, concerts, feminist radio programs, concerts by lesbian choirs, video performances… From Fiji to Botswana, from Cyprus to South Korea, the power of street performances will conquer May 17 this year.
Botswana
With 20 comprised dancers and actors, the inaugural Queer Shorts Showcase promises to be an enlightening and entertaining evening of theatre and activism.
South Korea
The Rainbow Action, a coalition of sexual minority organisation in Korea, have planned a flashmob with singing and dancing which will take place in the Daehanmun area.
Azerbaijan
Sing for Equality: Local organisations will use music that symbolises the interests of LGBT people, racial, ethnic, social groups, age, professions and other minorities in Azerbaijan to celebrate May 17.
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Organisations are planning several media campaigns on hate crimes and will hold a discussion that serves as the starting point for the Anti-Discrimination Strategy for Bosnia and Herzegovina. They will commend these actions with a concert.

Croatia
Queer Zagreb will host a gender themed dance festival between May 14 – 18. Women choreographers and the performance group “Performing Gender” will use dance and music as tools to question the role of gender in performing arts.
Cyprus
Local organizations in northern part of the country will host an open air festival designed to reclaim public space and reformulate it in a way to celebrate their ʺdifferencesʺ. The name of the festival is ʺGayri-resmi geçitʺ (ʺReckless Paradeʺ in English).
They will also start a film festival ʺQueer Shorts and Documentariesʺ with the screening of “My Child”, a film about families with LGBTI children. Members of the film will also be present at both parade and later in the festival.
Macedonia
The LGBT Network in the country will be using the space in the City Park for a public social event in commemoration of IDAHOT. The event will include a music program, speeches by LGBTI and Human Rights activists and experts and info booths with promotional and educational material.
Serbia
Labris Lesbian Human Rights Organisation in Belgrade will host a music night named “Music Against Homophobia” on May 17. In cooperation with other LGBT groups, they will also host a public event & street action.
Fiji
The women’s news and radio organisation FemLINKPACIFIC will be dedicating a lot of its content to IDAHOT this year. Their theme for the 10th anniversary campaign is “Communicating Peace, Development, Diversity, Security and Freedom”, which will connect with the theme for World Press Freedom Day 2014 and the Freedom of Expression theme for IDAHOT 2014.
There will be a promotion and commemoration of IDAHOT from May 17 wrapping up with a “Rainbow Connections” consultation and community radio/TV simulcast (Nadi, 20 – 23 May) featuring 30 rural women leaders.
Australia
Local organisations will do a video submission of song/performance related to Freedom of Expression, possibly also a live performance around May 17.
Nepal
IDAHOT will be celebrated as a 3-day festival starting from 15th May. Various activities including a photo exhibition, dance competition and a play around sexual and gender minority people’s lives at the National Theater will take place.
