Info: This year the LGTIQ+ community in Liberia will Jointly Host the International Day Against
Homophobia, Transphobia, Biphobia etc.. (IDAHOTBIT 2024). The event will be hosted on
the auspices of the Liberia Initiative for the Promotion Identity Diversity and Equality (LIPRIDE) in collaboration with its members and other partners will harness on the international Theme: “No one left behind: equality, freedom, and justice for all” and use as its national/local Theme: “Ending Stigma; Embrace Diversity” and will host a National Stakeholder Convening to brainstorm and engage with key stakeholders, duty bearer and state actors to initiate a conversation to inform policy decision to ensure the protection of the rights of LGBTIQ+, Key Population including other marginalized groups in Liberia
The Convening will be held in two sessions. The first session is going to contextualize challenges face by LGBTIQ+ and Key Population persons in accessing comprehensive SRHR services and the need for LGBTIQ+ and KPs themselves leading their own programing interventions Implementation. This is also going to amplify the leaving no one behind and the concept of community led leadership implementation becoming a reality.
The second session with look at the current human rights situation of LGBTIQ+ Persons in the face of growing violations of mysterious disappearance, brutal torture, violence and passage of anti LGBTIQ+ bills by parliament in Africa taking clue from what’s happening in Uganda and Ghana mirroring it the two bill still before the parliament in Liberia that fueling increase homophobia, etc.
