International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia

Info: The first OAS “Celebration of LGBTI+ Pride in the Americas,” hosted by the LGBTI+ Core Group countries of the Organization of American States (OAS) and other allies, represents a landmark occasion as it coincides with the 20th anniversary of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). Taking place on Friday, May 17th, from 6:45 pm to 8:30 pm at the historic Hall of the Americas in Washington DC, this event aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by LGBTI+ individuals in the Americas, and unite organizations and initiatives in combating discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex characteristics.

It will feature performances by queer Peruvian-Brazilian artist JChris and NYC-based Caribbean-Guyanese performer Zaman, showcasing the vibrant diversity and talent within the region’s LGBTI+ community. Attendees will have the opportunity to celebrate resilience and reaffirm their commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that upholds the human rights and fundamental freedoms of all individuals throughout the Americas, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Through collaborative efforts and shared advocacy, the event seeks to inspire positive change and advance LGBTQI+ rights, contributing to a more equitable and just society for all.

Info: The Sunday service at the Unitarian Universalist Church in San Marcos will focus on IDAHOBIT. The speaker is local transgender man, Dr. Brandon Beck. His sermon will be about the history and importance of IDAHOBIT, will include readings and remembrances focused on justice, awareness, and ending violence, a children’s time including a story time with a story about a trans child loved by his mother, and action steps for stopping phobia around you. No matter how you identify, who you are, where you are on your own personal journey, you are invited to join in person or by zoom (link available on SMUUF website).

Love For All Boat

Info: On 5/30 we’re hosting the Love For All Boat sunset cruise headlined by a vow renewal ceremony led by Justice Mary Yu, Washington’s first openly gay Asian American and Latina justice—who officiated Washington’s first same-sex marriage in 2012.

The cruise will go from 730p PST through sunset before returning to land and being welcomed by the Seattle skyline lighted up in pride colors. The event will be emceed by Ben DeLa Creme and feature an evening of food, drinks, music and much more with the purpose of celebrating love for all.
