SUMMARY:Open Frame: Short LGBTIQ+ films for IDAHOBIT
DESCRIPTION:Open Frame: Short LGBTIQ+ Films for IDAHOBIT marks the 2026 International Day Against Homophobia\, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) and reflects the global theme “At the heart of democracy.” The event explores how equality\, dignity and participation of LGBTIQ+ people are essential to strong and inclusive democratic societies. \nThrough a curated short film programme\, the event uses storytelling to open space for reflection and dialogue on lived experience\, human rights and belonging. It brings together the diplomatic community\, UN and international organization personnel\, and partners in International Geneva to engage with culture as a bridge between values and practice\, and to reaffirm commitments to non‑discrimination and inclusion. \nOrganized by UN-GLOBE Geneva\, the event is generously co-sponsored by the Permanent Missions of Mexico\, the United Kingdom\, and Spain to the United Nations\, the United Nations Office at Geneva\, and UNAIDS\, in collaboration with Everybody’s Perfect\, Geneva’s International Queer Film Festival.

SUMMARY:LGBTQI+ Awareness & Informational Workshop for Georgian Immigrants in New York
DESCRIPTION:This community-based educational workshop\, led by Konstantine Svanidze\, a proud member of the LGBTQI+ community and a trauma-informed psychosocial specialist\, will take place on May 3\, 2026\, in New York. The workshop will bring together Georgian-speaking LGBTQI+ immigrants\, allies\, asylum seekers\, parents\, and community members for an informative and supportive discussion about LGBTQI+ identity\, terminology\, visibility\, dignity\, safety\, and community participation. \nThe event will focus on understanding LGBTQI+ concepts\, including the difference between gender identity\, sexual orientation\, gender expression\, and lived experience. It will also explore why respectful language matters when people speak about their own stories. The workshop will discuss the importance of visibility\, community education\, and informed support for LGBTQI+ people\, especially immigrants and asylum seekers who may come from countries where LGBTQI+ people still face stigma\, discrimination\, or violence. \nBefore this workshop\, we began preparing the community through public Georgian language conversations and interviews shared on our Facebook page. These conversations included voices that have rarely\, if ever\, been heard publicly in this way within the Georgian community in the United States: a Georgian mother speaking openly in support of her gay child\, a gay Georgian man openly sharing about his life and his adopted children\, a psychologist working with immigrant women\, and other community voices connected to identity\, family\, migration\, fear\, resilience\, and acceptance. \nFor us\, this is not only an event. It is a difficult and meaningful step toward building a safer ground where Georgian LGBTQI+ immigrants and their families can speak more openly\, be seen\, and feel less alone. This work is not easy. It requires courage from activists\, families\, professionals\, and community members who are slowly opening doors that were closed for many years. \nFor the Georgian LGBTQI+ community\, May 17 is a deeply painful date connected to fear\, violence\, silence\, resistance\, and courage. Preparing this May 3 workshop became one of our most important steps toward connecting Georgian LGBTQI+ immigrant voices in New York with the global mission of IDAHOBIT. \nThe event will include Georgian language scripts\, educational materials\, and community discussion. If IDAHOBIT organizers or partners are interested in future collaboration\, we are open-hearted and ready to provide additional materials\, photos\, videos\, English translations\, subtitles\, and documentation that can help make these invisible needs\, stories\, and voices more visible. \nVICI Team LLC is open to future collaboration\, translation support\, documentation sharing\, public awareness work\, and any additional steps that may support Georgian LGBTQI+ immigrant visibility within the global IDAHOBIT movement.

SUMMARY:The Future of Global LGBTI+ Rights: Navigating Uncertainty and Building Alternatives
DESCRIPTION:To mark this year’s International Day Against Homophobia\, Biphobia\, and Transphobia\, Kaleidoscope Trust is proud to announce a free online panel on May 29th at 2:30 PM (UK time). \nJoin our free\, virtual event where Kaleiodoscope Trust will bring together activists\, changemakers\, diplomats and civil society leaders\, to engage in a focused dialogue about the threats facing LGBTI+ rights and communities worldwide in this new era. The discussion will also explore strategies to strengthen collaboration\, leverage international networks\, and identify new opportunities to support and protect LGBTI+ rights in this critical period. \nThe global landscape for LGBTI+ rights demands urgent attention as a resurgence of populism and a troubling backlash against equality unfolds in many parts of the world\, particularly in countries with a colonial legacy. Hostility towards LGBTI+ advocacy and communities is reshaping public discourse\, bringing opportunities for collaboration\, and setting concerning precedents in human rights practices. The proliferation of homophobic narratives and regressive policies is risking hard-won progress and endangering the safety\, dignity\, and freedom of our communities. \nOur communities are our backbone\, and we are honoured to celebrate them today and every day. \n🌟 Join us in solidarity\, reflection\, and action.

SUMMARY:Dialogue for the Inclusion of Diversity
DESCRIPTION:The Dialogue for the Inclusion of Diversity was a space for meaningful engagement among civil society organizations representing the LGBTIQ+ population\, United Nations Country Team (UNCT) and UN Globe in honduras. Held in the framework of the International Day Against Homophobia\, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT)\, the dialogue commemorated the historic decision by the World Health Organization to remove homosexuality from its list of mental illnesses. It also served as a platform to advocate for the human rights\, equality\, and dignity of all individuals\, regardless of their sexual orientation\, gender identity\, or gender expression. \nThe event saw strong participation from civil society organizations representing the LGBTIQ+ population\, highlighting their leadership and active role in the national efforts to promote inclusion and protect rights. Through open dialogue\, participants addressed key concerns currently faced by the community\, including stigma\, violence\, and barriers to access to services and justice. During the dialogue\, the UN also assured the participants about the organization’s unwavering commitment to protect their human rights and accompany them in facing the challenges shared. \nThe space reinforced the collective commitment to strengthen joint efforts in guaranteeing the rights\, equality\, and inclusion of all people without discrimination. It also underscored the importance of continuing to build alliances between civil society and the United Nations to promote transformative change and ensure that no one is left behind. \nIn a context where the LGBTIQ+ population are facing backlash globally\, the meeting and public posts regarding it\, contributes to advocate for their rights and inclusion.
