SUMMARY:Queere Provinz / provincia queer?

This edition of the Digital Rights Lounge explores the intersection between digital rights and LGBTIQ+ rights\, bringing together activists\, researchers and policymakers to discuss how digital infrastructures affect queer lives and what can be done to effectively protect rights in the digital age.

SUMMARY:IDAHOBIT 2026-Decriminalisation in Asia Pacific: Are we moving forward?
DESCRIPTION:We have seen positive efforts in terms of decriminalisation of same-sex sexual acts in India (2018)\, Bhutan (2021)\, Singapore (2022) and most recently Cook Islands (2023). However\, seventeen countries in the region still have colonial laws prohibiting consensual sex between men. \nThe session aims to raise awareness for LGBTQI+ rights and the lives of those who are from countries with criminalization laws\, and profiling the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress that has been centerfold for numerous celebrations and events related to the decriminalization of LGBTQI+.

SUMMARY:OUTBermuda IDAHOBIT Observance
DESCRIPTION:OUTBermuda IDAHOBIT Observance\nInternational Day Against Homophobia\, Biphobia and Transphobia\nFriday\, May 15 | 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m | Steps of City Hall\nOUTBermuda invites members of Bermuda’s LGBTQ+ community\, allies\, nonprofit leaders\, political leaders\, business leaders\, faith leaders\, families\, friends\, and members of the public to join us for Bermuda’s first public observance of IDAHOBIT.\nIDAHOBIT stands for the International Day Against Homophobia\, Biphobia and Transphobia. It is marked around the world each year on May 17 as a day of action\, awareness\, solidarity\, and visibility for LGBTQIA+ people.\nThe date recognizes the World Health Organization’s May 17\, 1990 decision to remove homosexuality from the International Classification of Diseases. You can learn more about the international day at may17.org.\nAlthough IDAHOBIT is observed globally\, this will be the first time Bermuda publicly marks the day in this way.\nWe are doing this because LGBTQ+ Bermudians and residents still face harm caused by homophobia\, biphobia\, transphobia\, shame\, public ridicule\, bullying\, discrimination\, and silence. These harms affect people at school\, at work\, in families\, in faith spaces\, online\, and in public life.\nFor many LGBTQ+ people\, especially young people\, this can lead to isolation\, poor mental health\, fear\, and a deep sense that they do not belong. Transgender and non-binary people in Bermuda face added stigma\, misunderstanding\, and gaps in safety\, healthcare\, and legal protection.\nOUTBermuda has also recently completed Bermuda’s first national LGBTQ+ survey and research project\, in partnership with Global Research. This has been a historic opportunity for LGBTQ+ people connected to Bermuda to share their experiences\, needs\, concerns\, and hopes for the future.\nWe will use the data from this research to better advocate for and serve our community. We also plan to publish the findings to help amplify the voices\, contributions\, and needs of LGBTQ+ people connected to Bermuda.\nTogether\, IDAHOBIT and this research project mark an important moment for Bermuda. We are creating more space for LGBTQ+ people to be heard\, seen\, protected\, and included in decisions that affect our lives.\nThis event will create a public moment of solidarity. It will name the harm caused by homophobia\, biphobia and transphobia. It will lift up the dignity of LGBTQ+ people in Bermuda. It will call on leaders\, institutions\, families\, and allies to help build a Bermuda where LGBTQ+ people are safe\, seen\, valued and thriving.\nOUTBermuda’s Policy Manifesto calls for stronger action to protect and support LGBTQ+ Bermudians. This includes targeted LGBTQ+ mental health support\, clear school protocols to address anti-LGBTQ+ bullying and harassment\, improved access to gender-affirming care\, stronger confidentiality protections\, the addition of gender identity to the Human Rights Act\, and stronger legal protections against hate and discrimination.\nYou can read the full OUTBermuda Policy Manifesto here: outbermuda.org/policy-manifesto \nYour Presence Matters\nThis event is for LGBTQ+ people and allies.\nFor LGBTQ+ people\, showing up can be an act of visibility\, pride\, courage\, healing\, or quiet solidarity.\nFor allies\, showing up matters because LGBTQ+ people should not have to carry this work alone.\nAllyship means more than private support. It means standing with LGBTQ+ people in public. It means challenging harmful comments\, speaking up against bullying\, supporting inclusive policy\, and helping create safer homes\, schools\, workplaces\, churches\, and community spaces. When allies show up\, it sends a message to LGBTQ+ people across Bermuda:\nYou are not alone. You belong here. Your life has value. Your future matters. \nEvent Focus & Messaging\nThe event will include brief remarks and calls to action focused on:\n•	What IDAHOBIT is and why Bermuda is marking it now\n•	The harm caused by homophobia\, biphobia and transphobia\n•	The importance of protecting LGBTQ+ young people\n•	Mental health\, safety\, and belonging\n•	The need for stronger protections in schools\n•	The importance of respecting and protecting trans and non-binary people\n•	OUTBermuda’s Policy Manifesto and calls for social and policy change\n•	The role of allies\, leaders\, families\, faith communities\, businesses\, and public institutions\n•	Bermuda’s first national LGBTQ+ survey and research project \nInvitation to Attend\nWe encourage you to attend and to bring someone with you.\nBring a colleague. Bring a friend. Bring a family member.\nBring someone who believes Bermuda can be more loving\, more inclusive\, and more courageous.\nThis is a public moment for Bermuda to stand together against homophobia\, biphobia and transphobia\, and to stand for dignity\, safety\, belonging\, and hope.\nLet’s continue to build the Bermuda we deserve.

SUMMARY:LGBTQIA+ community in Tunisia ... Ongoing violations !
DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of the International Day Against Queerphobia\, (IDAHOBIT)\, the association Damj in Tunisia is organizing a dual event on May 17\, 2025\, aimed at denouncing the ongoing violations of the rights of LGBTIQ+ individuals in Tunisia and urging the Tunisian state to uphold its international commitments. \nThe first event will be a national press conference\, attended by dozens of Tunisian and international media outlets. During this conference\, Damj will present its official response to the falsehoods and inaccuracies contained in the Tunisian state’s reply\, issued in October 2024\, following the letter sent by four United Nations Special Rapporteurs in May 2024 regarding the violations suffered by the association Damj\, its activists\, and the broader queer community. \nThe second event will take the form of a forum bringing together 100 LGBTIQ+ activists as well as representatives from Tunisian human rights organizations. During this gathering\, Damj will present its mid-term report on the implementation by the Tunisian state of the recommendations it accepted between November 2022 and March 2023 as part of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) before the United Nations Human Rights Council\, particularly those related to the rights of LGBTIQ+ individuals.

This third edition of the report continues its mission to document\, analyze\, and advocate for the rights of the LGBTQI+ community in Bangladesh. Building on the previous reports from 2022 and 2023\, this edition highlights both the progress made and the ongoing challenges faced by LGBTQI+ individuals in a society where full equality remains an elusive goal. \nThe full report will be released through an official press statement and will be available both online at www.jmbf.org and in hardcopy\, aligning with the International Day Against Homophobia\, Transphobia\, and Biphobia. \nThe year 2024 brought a mix of hope and hardship. The shift in political power with the new administration in August offered promises of improved human rights protections. However\, discrimination\, violence\, and stigma persisted—exacerbated by the influence of fundamentalist groups\, political parties\, and student movements. \nThis report details the daily struggles of LGBTQI+ individuals\, from legal and social exclusion to targeted violence. It also highlights the courageous efforts of activists and organizations working tirelessly for justice and equality. \nBased on extensive research\, media coverage\, and firsthand accounts\, the report captures the state of LGBTQI+ rights from January to December 2024. Nonetheless\, many incidents of abuse remain unreported due to fear and societal stigma\, limiting the full visibility of these violations. Despite these challenges\, the report serves as a crucial tool for understanding the urgent need for systemic change and continued advocacy.

SUMMARY:Launch of the 2025 Rainbow Map
DESCRIPTION:The countdown is on! On May 14\, ILGA-Europe unveils the 2025 Rainbow Map – the ultimate snapshot of where LGBTI rights stand across Europe. \nGet ready to explore how laws and policies across Europe are shaping the lives and rights of LGBTI people. \nThe Rainbow Map – ILGA-Europe’s annual benchmarking tool – comprises the Rainbow Map and Index and national recommendations. ILGA-Europe have produced the Rainbow Map and Index since 2009\, using it to illustrate the legal and policy situation of LGBTI people in Europe. \nThe Rainbow Map and Index ranks European countries on their respective legal and policy practices for LGBTI people\, from 0-100%. \nIn order to create our country ranking\, ILGA-Europe examine the laws and policies in 49 countries using 76 criteria\, divided between seven thematic categories: equality and non-discrimination; family; hate crime and hate speech; legal gender recognition; intersex bodily integrity; civil society space; and asylum. \nPolicymakers\, researchers and journalists are able to go ‘behind’ the points and see the original information sources that we base our Map ranking on.
