DESCRIPTION:Diversity ACT is a LGBTQIA+ led\, volunteer-run organisation in Canberra\, Australia which contributes to the wellbeing of our local and regional communities by running LGBTQIA+ friendly social groups and activities where peers and allies from all walks of life are welcome. \nWe know that time shared as a community – eating together\, sharing laughter\, engaging in something fun\, insightful\, or relaxing\, even for a few hours – fundamentally strengthens and creates community. It is also fundamentally regenerative\, serving as an often overlooked part of taking care of communities responding to a uncertain world. \nFor this reason\, we have chosen to mark IDAHOBIT with a Community Wellbeing Festival. All are invited to get out of the house for a day\, by themselves\, with family\, or friends\, grab a bite to eat\, browse vibrant community stalls. engage in family friendly activities\, and join workshops focused on making\, moving\, and being well.\nBest dressed can also win a prize in the Wellbeing Fashion Parade. \nEntry by donation. DESCRIPTION:Back by popular demand\, and in celebration of this year’s International Day Against Homophobia\, Transphobia\, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT)\, come and join us for story time with award-winning storyteller Mama G! \nMama G will be sharing original stories and songs\, alongside some of the very best picture books on the market\, in an uplifting\, joyful story time for the whole family. Expect dancing\, laughter\, and giggles galore as Mama G celebrates the power of being who you want to be and loving who you are. \nThe International Day Against Homophobia\, Transphobia\, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT) takes place on 17 May each year and is a global moment of solidarity and visibility for LGBTQIA+ individuals and communities. It’s a perfect day to celebrate kindness\, inclusion\, and equality while standing against discrimination\, and to enjoy storytelling that inspires and uplifts. \nDescribed as “everyone’s favourite pantomime dame” (Metro)\, Mama G has been telling stories for the last six years. During that time\, she has been a semi-finalist on Britain’s Got Talent\, performed her show Off-Broadway\, and appeared at libraries\, festivals\, Prides\, museums\, and theatres across the UK. \nSuitable for: Children of all ages and their adults are welcome\nTime: 11.30am and 2.30pm\nMeeting Point: H2O\nThis event is free and included with your admission.

DESCRIPTION:Community members and allies will gather at Founders Metropolitan Community Church in Los Angeles for a public act of courage: the unveiling of the Rainbow Steps. \nCreated by Lynn Segerblom\, co-creator of the original rainbow flag in 1978\, the installation transforms the church’s historic entry staircase into a vibrant spectrum of color — a symbolic pathway representing courage\, visibility\, and the ongoing struggle for LGBTQ+ dignity and equality. \nFounders MCC holds a unique place in LGBTQ+ history. Its founder\, Rev. Troy Perry\, helped launch the modern Pride movement by organizing the first Pride parade in Los Angeles in 1970\, demonstrating how visibility and collective action help expand freedom. \nThe event will also mark the official launch of Flag50\, a global initiative leading toward the 50th anniversary of the rainbow flag in 2028\, celebrating the flag’s enduring role as a symbol of hope\, diversity\, and human rights. \nIn a time when LGBTQ+ people around the world continue to face discrimination and violence\, the Rainbow Steps stand as a visible reminder that defending LGBTQ+ dignity is central to protecting democracy itself. \nThe event will take place in person in Los Angeles and online for global participation\, inviting communities everywhere to reflect on why equality and solidarity remain at the heart of democracy. \nMore information and livestream details:ourpride.org \nWith each step\, the Rainbow Steps invite us to remember that freedom is not achieved in a single moment\, but built step by step through courage\, solidarity\, and the enduring promise of democracy.
