It’s a day to raise awareness\, spark conversations\, and take a stand against discrimination in all its forms. SUMMARY:Communion
DESCRIPTION:Communion or Queer Communion is a project dedicated to remembering and celebrating the lives of marginalised queer people who were murdered for living as themselves. The project is a rejection of the attempts to dismiss\, defile or simply erase LGBTQIA+ people. It started from a need to process on a personal level the emotional impact of news reports of hate crime murders that became increasingly frequent during the Covid pandemic. It has continued in part because of the engagement of those in the community who have reacted positively and encouraged me to continue. \nI believe that hate crime and the manner in which authority and society respond to it act to create an environment of fear\, as well as the sense that LGBTQIA+ lives are disposable and shameful. In spite of this queer people continue to live openly in defiance of attempts to control or police them into compliance. The works are meant to celebrate the simultaneously incandescent and ordinary lives that have been lost\, as well as mourning\, they also are a refusal of the tendency to place the inflicted pain\, death and violence at the centre of how we remember them.  \nThe project is also about visibility\, asking us who is deserving of commemoration and who we are content to erase\, sweep under the carpet. Many of these were create using photographs that were blurry or overly cropped\, and in some sense the accessibilty of photographs has dictated the choice of portraits.  \nThe project consists of a series of portraits that evoke a sense of the sacred through references to spiritual iconography to create spaces for contemplation and stillness. There are currently three forms of the project that are ongoing.  \nAn installation consisting of a 14 sided metal framework that holds 13 portraits that are hand painted on cast acrylic sheeting and act in a similar way to stained glass windows\, was first exhibited at the Spier Light Art Festival in 2021\, and later at the Kopano gathering.  This installation included portaits of Nonhlanhla Kunene; Sphamandla Khoza; Motshidi Pascalina (Pasca); Kirvan Fortuin; Sam Mbatha; Buhle Poswa; Lindokuhle Mapu; Nare Mphela; Bonang Gaelae; Lonwabo Jack; Phelokazi Mqathana; Lindokuhle Cele; Liyabona Mabishi. \nA series of watercolour paintings on paper that aim to act as a commemorative archive. The watercolour paintings allow for a more responsive archive and will continue to evolve and grow in response to the environment as much as is possible.

DESCRIPTION:El 17 de mayo se celebra el Día Internacional de lucha contra la discriminación por Orientación Sexual e Identidad de Género\, Es una fecha promovida por la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU) desde 2004 para generar conciencia sobre la discriminación basada en la orientación sexual e identidad de género. Este día conmemora la eliminación de la homosexualidad de la lista de enfermedades mentales por parte de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) el 17 de mayo de 1990. \nPara aportar a la reflexión de esta fecha\, el sábado 17 de mayo veremos la película «Lilies not for me» (2024) (Los lirios no son para mi)\, dirigida por Will Seefried y protagonizada por Adrienne Pearce\, Aidan Scott\, Albert Pretorius. En 1920\, un novelista gay y su enfermero psiquiátrico estrechan lazos a través de una serie de ‘citas’ ordenadas por un médico\, mientras él cuenta la historia de una amistad que se descontroló cuando recurrieron a un arriesgado procedimiento para curarse de sus sentimientos mutuos. \nEsta película que transcurre en 1920 muestra el paradigma existente antes de 1990. ONENESS: Inspired by a true event from 2013\, the film tells the story of Ivan Martin\, a young boy from a deeply conservative Christian family in Manipur\, India\, whose love for Pamheiba — a boy from the Meitei community — becomes a radical act of resistance. Улмаар 2004 онд Нэгдсэн Үндэстний Байгууллага-аас энэхүү өдрийг хүний эрхийн тэмдэглэлт өдөр болгон хүлээн зөвшөөрч\, дэлхий даяар тэмдэглэдэг болсон юм.\nМонгол Улсад 2011 оноос эхлэн АЙДАХОБИТ-ыг тэмдэглэж ирсэн бөгөөд энэ хүрээнд олон нийтэд бэлгийн чиг баримжаа\, хүйсийн баримжаа\, илэрхийллийн талаар шинжлэх ухаанд суурилсан үнэн бодит мэдээлэл түгээх\, хүний эрхийг хүндэтгэх соёлыг төлөвшүүлэхэд чиглэсэн олон талт үйл ажиллагааг зохион байгуулж байна.\nТус үзэсгэлэн нь орчин үеийн гэрэл зургийн олон төрөл\, жанрыг хамарч\, ЛГБТИК+ хүмүүсийн амьдрал\, туршлага\, дуу хоолойг урлагаар илэрхийлсэн бүтээлүүдийг олон нийтэд хүргэх болно. This year\, the day is being observed worldwide under the slogan ‘In the Heart of Democracy.’\nTo mark this day\, as part of the LGBT Centre’s ‘Art for Rights’ initiative\, a photography exhibition will be held at Hөх Нар Сав Space from 15 to 28 May 2026. The exhibition opening will take place on 15 May 2026 at 18:00. \nThe ‘Art for Rights’ initiative aims to promote the understanding of human rights through art\, support artists on LGBTQI+ themes\, and create a space for queer artists. Art is a powerful tool that not only critiques social\, political and cultural realities but also calls for positive change and spreads love and pride.\nTo cite the history of AIDAHOBIT Day\, on 17 May 1990 —when the World Health Organisation officially removed same-sex orientation from its list of mental disorders—was a particularly significant event for the LGBTQI+ movement. Subsequently\, in 2004 the United Nations recognised this day as a human rights day\, and it has been celebrated worldwide.\nIn Mongolia\, IDAHOBIT has been celebrated since 2011\, and within this framework\, science-based\, factual information about sexual orientation\, gender identity and expression is disseminated to the public\, organising multifaceted activities aimed at fostering a culture of respect for human rights.\nThe exhibition will encompass various forms and genres of contemporary photography\, bringing to the public works that express the lives\, experiences\, and voices of LGBTQI+ people through art. Of the more than 80 works submitted\, 65 have been selected to be exhibited\, and will also be featured in Pride magazine and the exhibition catalogue.\nThis exhibition will be a significant event\, uniting the values of art\, human rights and democracy\, and fostering understanding\, empathy and mutual respect among the public. \nExhibition hours: 15th–28th May\, 11:00–19:00.
