SUMMARY:Trans-Allyship in Action
DESCRIPTION:Cork marks May 17th\, the International Day Against Homophobia\, Lesbophobia\, Transphobia\, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT) each year with LGBTI+ Awareness Week\, reaffirming our commitment to equality\, inclusion\, and solidarity. \nThis year’s theme\, “Trans Allyship in Action\,” highlights the urgent need for meaningful and active support for trans and non-binary people. At a time when trans rights are increasingly under attack globally\, allyship must go beyond statements of support. It must be a commitment to advocacy\, protection\, and empowerment. \nWe invite you to attend\, engage\, and stand in unwavering solidarity with trans and non-binary people in Cork and beyond. Through a series of events\, discussions\, and community gatherings\, Cork LGBTI+ Awareness Week 2025 will explore what it means to be a true ally in policy\, workplaces\, schools\, healthcare\, and everyday life. \nNearly a decade after the Gender Recognition Act 2015 granted legal recognition to trans male and trans female people in Ireland\, many still face barriers to healthcare\, safety\, and full social inclusion. Hate crimes and transphobic rhetoric are on the rise\, highlighting the need for strong protections and meaningful allyship. While discussions around hate speech legislation continue to evolve\, it remains vital to ensure that all communities feel supported and safeguarded. Together\, we can build a future where trans people are not just accepted but celebrated and protected.

SUMMARY:Rainbow Fiji Coalition Reset Convening
DESCRIPTION:International Day Against Homophobia\, Transphobia and Biphobia 2025\n“The Power of Communities”\nLocation: Suva\, Fiji (TBC)\nDates: May 15–17\, 2025 \nBackground & rationale \nThe International Day Against Homophobia\, Biphobia\, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT)\, observed annually on May 17\, raises awareness of the discrimination and violence faced by LGBTIQA+ individuals worldwide. Established in 2004\, it marks the 1990 declassification of homosexuality as a mental disorder by the WHO. \nMarking IDAHOBIT in Fiji is essential in addressing the persistent stigma\, discrimination\, and exclusion faced by LGBTIQA+ individuals despite legal protections. While Fiji’s Constitution prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity\, societal attitudes remain deeply influenced by conservative religious and traditional norms\, often leading to marginalisation in families\, workplaces and public spaces. Many Fijians of diverse SOGIESC struggle with limited access to safe spaces\, mental health support\, and economic opportunities\, making community-led initiatives crucial for fostering inclusion and acceptance. \nThe 2025 theme\, “The Power of Communities”\, highlights the role of collective action in advancing equality and inclusion. It is especially relevant to Fiji\, where collective structures the Vanua (traditional communities)\, religious groups such as the mandali\, village women and youth clubs\, and grassroots structures- play a pivotal role in shaping societal attitudes and policies. Historically\, community mobilisation has driven change in climate justice and women’s rights\, demonstrating its potential to advance LGBTIQA+ rights and equality. Strengthening solidarity within these spaces can challenge prejudice\, promote allyship\, and create lasting cultural shifts. By marking ODAHOBIT\, we raise awareness and visibility and empower communities to drive meaningful changes. \nOrganising partners \nIDAHOBIT 2025 is organised in partnership between Oceania Pride and the Trans Affirmative Action Guild (TAAG).\nOceania Pride was established in September 2009 as an LGBTIQA+ network for young people in Fiji. Over the years\, the focus of Oceania Pride has been on mental health\, queer spaces and Pride activities. The network has carried out digital media projects on acceptance and IDAHOBIT before. In 2024\, recognising the rise of the anti-gender movement and the need to mobilise resources effectively\, Oceania Pride was legally registered as a not-for-profit in Fiji under the Company’s Act 2015. In the past year\, Oceania Pride has also refined its focus and approach to working with minority communities within the SOGIESC movements complementing the work of its partners and allies. \nThe Trans Affirmative Action Guild (TAAG) is led and founded by Fijian vakasa\, sian and trans-diverse (VST+) folx during a gathering\, to celebrate Transgender Day of Remembrance (Nov 20) in 2022\, of like-minded individuals. As proud beings of multiple intersections\, we navigate life respecting humanity\, nurturing ecosystems\, and protecting indigeneity and ethnic and cultural diversity. We are completely and unapologetically community-centred\, mobilising and drawing all the inspiration of our programming from the needs of our VST+ constituents. Our YAVU is lined and strengthened with the fibres of the resilience seen\, heard\, read\, and expressed through our varying stories and lived experiences. \nBoth organisations are affiliates of various networks and organisations\, such as the Pacific Sexual and Gender Diversity Network (PSGDN) and the Rainbow Fiji Coalition. \nEvent objectives\nThe activity is proposed with the following objectives:\n1. Strengthen knowledge and awareness of LGBTIQA+ rights and inclusion in Fiji.\n2. Explore the role of communities in advancing equality and justice.\n3. Initiate discussions for the development of a national SOGIESC inclusion framework.\n4. Equip participants with advocacy\, leadership\, and community-building skills.\n5. Develop collective action plans for the Rainbow Fiji Coalition. \nExpected outcomes \nThe event is proposed with the following outcomes:\n1. Increased knowledge of LGBTIQA+ rights\, policies\, and advocacy strategies in Fiji.\n2. Strengthened networks and solidarity among activists and allies.\n3. Practical advocacy skills and action plans for community engagement.\n4. A stronger and more connected movement for LGBTIQA+ inclusion in Fiji.\n5. A more robust Rainbow Coalition Fiji. \nThis 3-day workshop ensures deep learning\, active participation\, and concrete action steps. \nTarget audience & facilitation partners \nThe 3-day IDAHOBIT workshop will bring together 25-30 participants from diverse backgrounds\, all playing key roles in advancing LGBTIQA+ rights and inclusion in Fiji. The primary participants include LGBTIQA+ activists\, youth leaders\, community organisers\, human rights defenders\, and allies who are actively engaged in advocacy\, policy reform\, and community-building. Their participation will strengthen solidarity and equip them with practical skills to drive change within their respective spaces. \nAdditionally\, the workshop will engage representatives from civil society organizations (CSOs)\, non-governmental organizations (NGOs)\, and human rights institutions working on gender equality\, social justice\, and inclusion. Their involvement will help integrate LGBTIQA+ advocacy into broader human rights and development agendas. \nRecognizing the influence of traditional and faith-based leaders\, efforts will be made to include progressive religious figures\, educators\, and community elders who can act as allies in shifting public attitudes and fostering acceptance. Media representatives and policymakers may also be invited to selected sessions to ensure that advocacy efforts reach wider audiences. \nThis multi-stakeholder approach ensures that the workshop not only strengthens the LGBTIQA+ movement but also builds broader societal support\, creating a more inclusive and accepting Fiji.

SUMMARY:Jensaniyat Launch | جنسانيات: Reimagining and Exploring Sexuality & Gender in Arabic Communities
DESCRIPTION:On May 17\, 2025\, the Jensaniyat initiative (Arabic: جنسانيات) will be officially launched. \nThe name Jensaniyat is the Arabic equivalent of “Sexuality”\, but it carries a nuanced and layered meaning within Arabic-speaking contexts. It refers to a broad and complex concept that extends beyond biological sex or sexual activity. In contemporary social sciences\, Jensaniyat encompasses several interrelated dimensions\, including: \n\nBiological sex (physical characteristics distinguishing males and females)\nGender identity (how individuals perceive themselves in terms of gender)\nGender roles (socially expected behaviors and roles for men and women)\nSexual orientation (emotional and sexual attraction)\nPleasure\, intimacy\, and desire\nExpressions\, behaviors\, values\, and beliefs related to sex and gender\nThe initiative is dedicated to raising awareness and providing educational content on topics such as gender\, gender identities\, reproductive and sexual health\, gender-based violence (GBV)\, and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). One of its core goals is to localize and contextualize definitions and frameworks in ways that are accessible and relevant to Arabic-speaking communities.

SUMMARY:Online balloon launch
DESCRIPTION:Launch a Balloon Against Queerphobia! 🎈 \nToday\, May 17\, we mark the International Day Against Homophobia\, Biphobia\, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). It’s a day of solidarity\, support\, and protest against discrimination and violence targeting LGBTQ+ people. Around the world\, this day is traditionally commemorated with actions like mass balloon launches — a symbol of freedom\, hope\, and the fight for equality. \nRainbow balloon flash mobs in honor of IDAHOBIT took place as far back as 2009 — in Russia\, as well as in Ukraine and Armenia around the same time. \nBut now\, as we all know\, with increased repression and stricter laws in Russia\, this kind of action can no longer happen as it once did. In today’s Russia\, we can no longer take to the streets with colorful balloons. Still\, it’s important that all of us — not just LGBTQ+ people\, but also allies and everyone who believes in acceptance\, equality\, and nonviolence — have a chance to express protest and take a stand. \n🎈 Moscow Community Center of LGBTQ+ initiatives is launching a virtual IDAHOBIT — an online balloon release against homophobia\, biphobia\, and transphobia! This is our chance to come together\, to unite\, to be with each other even in unsafe times. We invite you to take part in this online action and launch your own balloon in support of equality\, acceptance\, and love. \n🎈 Launch your balloon here: https://mcclgbt.org/against_homophobia \n🕊 Participation is completely safe and anonymous. No login or registration is required — just click the button and become part of this meaningful event. You can take a stand and show your support without leaving your home. \n🎈 Join us! Launch a balloon\, launch hope and love — take a step toward a better world!

Building on our previous reports from 2023 and 2024\, this latest edition highlights both progress and persistent challenges faced by the community in a society where full equality remains an elusive goal. \nKey Insights from the Report:\n📌 The impact of political shifts in 2024 on human rights policies\n📌 Ongoing discrimination\, violence\, and stigma fueled by fundamentalist groups\, political parties\, and student movements\n📌 The daily struggles of LGBTQI+ individuals\, from legal and social exclusion to targeted violence\n📌 Inspiring stories of activists and organizations fighting for justice and equality \nBased on extensive research\, media reports\, and firsthand accounts\, this report captures the state of LGBTQI+ rights from January to December 2024. This third edition of the report continues its mission to document\, analyze\, and advocate for the rights of the LGBTQI+ community in Bangladesh. Building on the previous reports from 2022 and 2023\, this edition highlights both the progress made and the ongoing challenges faced by LGBTQI+ individuals in a society where full equality remains an elusive goal. \nThe full report will be released through an official press statement and will be available both online at www.jmbf.org and in hardcopy\, aligning with the International Day Against Homophobia\, Transphobia\, and Biphobia. \nThe year 2024 brought a mix of hope and hardship. The shift in political power with the new administration in August offered promises of improved human rights protections. However\, discrimination\, violence\, and stigma persisted—exacerbated by the influence of fundamentalist groups\, political parties\, and student movements. \nThis report details the daily struggles of LGBTQI+ individuals\, from legal and social exclusion to targeted violence. It also highlights the courageous efforts of activists and organizations working tirelessly for justice and equality. \nBased on extensive research\, media coverage\, and firsthand accounts\, the report captures the state of LGBTQI+ rights from January to December 2024. Nonetheless\, many incidents of abuse remain unreported due to fear and societal stigma\, limiting the full visibility of these violations. Despite these challenges\, the report serves as a crucial tool for understanding the urgent need for systemic change and continued advocacy.

SUMMARY:IDAHOBIT 2025: Moč skupnosti
DESCRIPTION:On the International Day Against Homophobia\, Biphobia\, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT)\, Legebitra is organizing a full-day community-centered program focused on intergenerational dialogue\, collective resistance\, and the strength of LGBTIQ+ communities. \nWe will bring together the pioneers of the LGBTIQ+ movement in Slovenia\, who publicly spoke out for equality in the 1980s and 1990s\, with the youngest generation of activists\, who are now fighting on TikTok\, Instagram\, and in the streets. Through conversations\, exhibitions\, and performances\, we will explore the tools and tactics of the past and present and share visions for a more just and inclusive future. \n🌈 IDAHOBIT 2025: Moč skupnosti \n📍Sobota\, 17. maj | Legebitrin mladinski center in dvorišče | Trubarjeva 76a Ljubljana\n🕘 Začnemo z jutranjo kavo\, končamo s piknikom pod mavrico! \nZa letošnji IDAHOBIT pripravljamo praznovanje\, ki prepleta zgodovino\, sedanjost in prihodnost LGBTIQ+ gibanja – skozi pogovor\, umetnost\, kavo\, krofe in kuhanje z ljubeznijo. Pridi občudovat pogum\, domišljijo in nežnost ujetih trenutkov. \n🥐☕ Piccola Cafe – Jutranji ritual z razvajanjem\nDan bomo začeli v stilu: z nami bodo čudovite Piccola Cafe\, ki bodo s sabo pripeljale baristo\, kavni aparat in kup ljubezni. Kuhale bodo sveže kave za vse udeležence\, zraven pa prinesle veganske rogljičke\, chia lončke in mehke kolačke – vse brezplačno. \n🍩Donut tell! – Krofi in bubble tea za dušo\nMed dnevom nas bodo razvajali tudi iz Donut tell – prinesli bodo slastne Pon de ring krofe in pripravili sveže mešane bubble tea napitke. \n🍴 Piknik s hrano izpod rok Anžeta Kuplenika\nPo okrogli mizi in razstavi sledi popoldansko mreženje in piknik\, kjer bomo uživale v jedeh\, ki jih bomo dan prej skuhale skupaj z zmagovalcem 5. sezone Masterchefa – Anžetom Kuplenikom. \n💜 Pridi z lakoto po znanju\, okusu\, mreženju in umetnosti!\nDogodek je popolnoma brezplačen\, odprt za vse LGBTIQ+ osebe in zaveznike.\nSkupaj praznujmo vidnost\, pogum in skupnost.

SUMMARY:LGBTQIA+ community in Tunisia ... Ongoing violations !
DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of the International Day Against Queerphobia\, (IDAHOBIT)\, the association Damj in Tunisia is organizing a dual event on May 17\, 2025\, aimed at denouncing the ongoing violations of the rights of LGBTIQ+ individuals in Tunisia and urging the Tunisian state to uphold its international commitments. \nThe first event will be a national press conference\, attended by dozens of Tunisian and international media outlets. During this conference\, Damj will present its official response to the falsehoods and inaccuracies contained in the Tunisian state’s reply\, issued in October 2024\, following the letter sent by four United Nations Special Rapporteurs in May 2024 regarding the violations suffered by the association Damj\, its activists\, and the broader queer community. \nThe second event will take the form of a forum bringing together 100 LGBTIQ+ activists as well as representatives from Tunisian human rights organizations. During this gathering\, Damj will present its mid-term report on the implementation by the Tunisian state of the recommendations it accepted between November 2022 and March 2023 as part of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) before the United Nations Human Rights Council\, particularly those related to the rights of LGBTIQ+ individuals.

SUMMARY:Info campaign: We already know each other
DESCRIPTION:Informational campaign in Ukraine. “We Already Know Each Other” is a campaign about the LGBT+ people who are already part of our lives — friends\, neighbors\, colleagues. It explains how to support them in everyday situations: at work\, in school\, or during casual conversations. The campaign sheds light on what coming out means and why not everyone can do it safely. It helps recognize everyday homophobia\, understand how jokes can hurt\, and why equality needs public support\, not just private acceptance. By fostering empathy and awareness\, the campaign encourages everyone to be active allies and create a more inclusive and respectful society.
